MITRE Aviation Institute Policy Statement

The following policy statement serves to reiterate the mission of the MITRE Aviation Institute (MAI) and specify guidelines for courseware development and the enrollment process. Each guideline outlined below ensures that both MITRE and the Federal Aviation Administration (FAA) information security policies are followed.

1. The mission of MAI is to enhance MITRE / CAASD's public interest role and provide technical and professional development opportunities to internal MITRE staff and the worldwide aviation community:

  • To synthesize a broad spectrum of aviation expertise drawing on MITRE's forty years of corporate aviation knowledge.
  • To deliver a unique learning experience designed to help cultivate an industry-wide collaborative culture, helping the FAA and the global aviation community to bring the best it has to offer on challenges facing the aviation community.

2. MAI offers instruction in several core disciplines employed in designing and operating the National Airspace System (NAS) and other airspace systems, as well as policies and procedures from the International Civil Aviation Organization (ICAO). Core disciplines include, but are not limited to:

  • Communications, Navigation, and surveillance (CNS)
  • Air traffic management (ATM)
  • Airspace planning and analysis
  • Airport planning and operations
  • Aviation safety and security

MAI Courses are offered through executive briefings, short courses, seminars, conferences and workshops. Each offering, both internal and external, is coordinated with the FAA.

3. Course content is derived from information that is readily available to the aviation community at large. Prior to offering any course presentations, the material is reviewed by MITRE / CAASD senior leadership to ensure that no proprietary or sensitive information is being disseminated and that MITRE remains in strict compliance with all applicable US export control laws.

4. Specific guidelines for course enrollment for individuals not employed by The MITRE Corporation or the FAA are as follows:

  • All attendee's name, address, phone number, nationality and corporate or government affiliation will be maintained in MAI's permanent records.
  • MAI will verify corporate and government affiliations for all attendees.
  • All registration fees must be paid either by check or money order.
  • MAI reserves the right to refuse any incomplete or questionable registrations based on State Department and MITRE guidelines on business relationships with foreign nations, sponsors or individuals.
  • MAI will apply the guidelines enumerated in this policy statement to courses offered jointly with other companies / organizations.
  • MAI reserves the right to cancel any and all classes.
